This clinic runs every day; Chest Clinic deals with patients who have been diagnosed with Tuberculosis (TB). Here diagnosis, treatment and nutritional advice are offered and fast tracking of suspicious cases like persistent coughs and sending them for sputum examination through microscopy and gene expert, screening the social contacts of TB patients as well as prioritizing Chest X-Rays for those suspected to be with TB. The clinic does referrals of patients who cannot reach the hospital to a nearby clinic where they can collect drugs.
A concept called “defaulter tracing” is also done here. Patients are routinely contacted by a social worker via telephone, in-person visit, or both very soon after they miss an appointment. This is when patients who have defaulted on treatment are followed up and encouraged to take medication. TB services are integrated with HIV chronic care where TB patients are encouraged to test for HIV, and treatment with ARVs offered.
